I bought a new head off ebay thinking it was German, and I get it home and it's made in China and not near the casting quality of my TD head. Has anyone used these chineese parts and had much luck with them. I'm thinking I need to re-do my original TD head best I can and re-use it. Past life I worked in a Steel foundry and not impressed! (I know were probably getting a large amount of part that are made their instead of NA)
Some on here have ran those chinese heads with boost and they seem to hold up.
I wouldnt touch them....
I found a brand new German AAZ head assy ( complete with valves etc )with new valve cover for 350.00
Frht was 64.00 euro ( DHL )

I'd get a used head over a new Chinese one any day. That being said if a Chinese head was my only option I would not hesitate to install it. I'd be worried as all heck but it's better then scraping the car.
Can anybody tell me how to spot a Chinese head?
There are so many head manufacturers in Europe alone, and I'm not even sure which manufacturers are European...
Maybe someone can provide us with a list of the reputable manufacturers?
I have run my head which is a chinese casting but with new oem parts for 10,000 miles. touch wood it seems absolutely fine. this is on a stock 80hp SB GTD engine. yes the casting didnt look as well finished as the german one, and obviousely i would have fitted german if I could but didnt have time to find one (or money)

I'm with Burn..
If I HAD to I would run one or, if I was just screwing around and didn't want to look for a German head then sure. If it was my daily driver and I had a choice I would run German..
