Tranny question.
« on: December 10, 2009, 05:34:47 pm »
I have an 83 rabbit diesel LS came with a 1.6NA and a 5speed transmission.  Im not sure the code of the tranny, but im rebuilding a 1.6TD MF engine and it will have more power then stock. Im just curious would a transmission out of say a mk2 diesel be better for this engine, or will be pretty close to the rabbits as far as gear ratio?  I believe they are both 020's. I am also planning on going with a 8v clutch and 16v pressure plate.

Thoughts?  Or maybe another transmission recomendation?

figure out the codes and look up the ratios. that will tell you a better story, a newer tranny may not be better. my trans that im running now is out of an 86 gas jetta. nice high .75 fifth gear and 3.67 final drive.
