Hi Guys,
I could use some advise on charging my AC system on my 82 Caddy diesel.
I haven't done this in a long time !
I have 2 small cans of R12 and the Can valve with hose and gauge.
I can't find any info in the OEM VW service manual and couldn't find anything using the "search".
Where do I hook up the R12 hose and can (at the pump or at the Radiator)?
Bottle righ side up or upside down ( Gas or liquid)?
I know the shrader valve near the radiator has a super slow leak (Have to change that first)
The system does have pressure,but not enough for the AC clutch to engauge.
If memory serves, I will need to jump the AC pressure switch before charging..Correct ?
I'm on a super low budget and doing this myself would really help.

Got it figured out

Low side connection was at the compressor.
It took 1/2 a can ,with can right side up ( gas charge) (cost = $ 7.50)

Blowing Nice COLD air now !
Not bad for a 29 year old vehicle !
Now I'll see how much power the AC draws from the engine,while driving to work

(not to mention fuel economy)
I've been getting 42 MPG US without the AC working ( On home heating oil without any additives)

Nice job! Seems when "modifying" a vehicle it's the first thing to go....Atleast yours is intact.
And to answer your question. In my experience with mk1 diesels 1.5 and 1.6 it does really slow you down with a naturally aspirated engine. I don't remember mileage suffering too bad tho.

and not that I'm suggesting you do this, but I have used propane in m R12 systems with great success. DOT frowns on it, but it'll work...and there are plenty of google articles out there.
