Some of those pictures are too big.
I think the cummins 4BT pump also has the tube running from the timing piston to the internal pressure regulator.
The regulator compares pressure from inside the pump to pressure at the front of the pump.
The timing piston also compares internal to input pressure.
I think it's some kind of cold start device but am not sure how it works.
