Kia mtdi pump on 1Z
« on: November 21, 2009, 04:12:27 pm »
the holy pump just arrived from germany  ;D

11mm plunger, good camplate, accelerator position sensor (for the vnt controller), sweet

has anybody fitted one of these before?
any issues?

other problem:
the only injectors I have available at the moment are .187 from a audi AAT, are these too small for starting this thing?

ouch! too much pressure then :(

I'll be using them to start the engine, then get something bigger, around .260
I was also considering .290 but the spray should be really bad on those

damn!  >:(

the nose where the pulley goes seems correct, but the body of the pump needs a 68mm hole to be mounted, vw uses 50mm

now.. make a frankenpump from a vw body and kia inner parts, or just machine the kia pump without even opening it?
I'm considering machining as my first option

if I could find a fiat pump I would use it, but this was the best I could get.
this also has a 20mm axel

I'm thinking about filling the spaces with aluminium (with a TIG) then machining the case to 50mm

I think they are very similar to the rover pumps. I machined my aaz pump bracket to accept the larger nose & using ALH pump nose parts everything lined up perfect. I also swapped out my aaz delivery valves as the LR ones were 1cm longer & the injector lines didn't line up.

thats also a good idea, and safer, I have a few 1.6TD brackets that should fit the 1z, could machine one of those without a problem.
if anything goes wrong, I'll still have the 1Z bracket

AAZ pumps, there are a few variants (I stopped counting at 14 different part numbers) but the crap one, the one with the PWM modulated timing advance control on the bottom has a bigger mounting hole, unsure of the size but I have a spare at work, if I ever remember I will dig it out and measure it, but it's for the pumps with the vernier pulley to set the timing, infact, thinking about it, the later T4 (Eurovan to you lot) has a similar pump, so i should imaging brackets from the "ABL" coded engine could also be suitable.
