Retorque?
« on: November 12, 2009, 12:45:36 pm »
Hi

I've just been reading the topic 'white smoke!' and it was said that its really important to retorque after 1000miles. I put a brand new head on my GTD last may and have done 5000 miles since. anyway, the car uses a bit more oil than it used to and there are no apparent leaks, also there is some slight leakage of something out the front of the head gasket.
On the last torque sequence when it was warm/hot I was happy until #10 when the bolt "gave" slightly and didnt feel as tight as the rest. anyway, i fired up the car and it was fine and have done those 5000 since.
i'm tempted to torque them a further quarter but worried they will break, espesially as the vw place i got the head from said not to worry about the retorque. I'm going to be pulling the head next summer to install arps and metal hg anyway. so is there any point in the retorque i.e could it blow because it hasent been retorqued? i'm pretty sure that the oil consumption has something to do with the lack of retorque as the bores are perfect. any help would be great :)
Thanks
Will

After the initial warm-up with the Rad cap removed, I did "that retorque" but have never done another at any miles.
