EFI for diesels, VW td on megasquirt?

the goal: turbo diesel with programmable efi control, low egt, improved milage and powerband to 5000 rpm.

retrofit diesel efi to any diesel
 
the injectors on this page are electronic fuel injectors for diesels, they fit navistar diesel motors.

combine 4 efi fuel injectors for a diesel with megasquirt programable fuel injection, a pyrometer, and a big turbo, intercooler...

for megasquirt: needs crank trigger wheel for perfect timing, and as megasquirt only does 2 channels/injectors, 2 megasquirt computers or a 4 channel stand alone.. no spark needed

it needs a diesel oil pump, maybe one walbro 255 per injector or adapt the vw diesel injection pump to just provide pressure.

 on list but less important equal length runner "rams horn" turbo manifold

Or you could buy a PD TDI for little over the price of 4 injectors?

The ford/navistar injectors are electric-over-hydraulic. They require a high pressure oil pump (1000psi+?) to operate. They also have drive current requirements (20amps or better to fire) outside the capabilities of any standalone sytem currently on the market.

 The megasquirt system cannot combine fuel delivery and timing in the manner required in a diesel engine. You have to remember that in a diesel combustion is initiated at the moment of fuel injection and power is controlled by the magnitude and duration of each injection event, these are things that are not normally controlled in a gas engine. Gassers need only control injector duration (not timing) and ignition timing (but not duration). Most standalone systems are not capable of running a diesel. It would be much simpler to start with a common rail fuel system and then design your own computer and software to control it. The common rail system does not require high pressure oil or a new head design like the PD engine.

As QuickTD said, those injectors are for a heui (hyraulically actuated, electronically controlled unit injection) fuel system.  It requires a high pressure oil pump capable of pressures in excess of 3300 psi.  There need to be oil passages in the head to feed the oil to the injectors.  They also will not physically fit in any vw engine.  Injectors are designed to be compatible with an engine's fuel system and mechanicals.  You can't just take an injector from one engine and put it in something different.[/quote]
