CV Drive shafts 90mm to 100mm swap
« on: November 05, 2009, 10:02:12 am »
Hello All,
I am installing an 5 speed ACH transmission in my 81 rabbit P/U diesel. The new tranny  has the 100mm drive flanges. What drive shafts will work on the Rabbit P/U with an ACH 100mm drive shaft flange tranny. I am thinking of going over to the local scrap yard and pulling the drive shafts of off a 5 speed 1986 Jetta. Will it work?
Thanks!

mk1 drive shafts fit in MK1's the only bolt in shaft you can use is out of a 16v scirocco. or just put some 100mm inners on the axles you already have. thats what i did. took a trans and inner cv joints from a 92 jetta and put them in my 81 rabbit. the inner CV joints will work, the whole jetta/golf axle wont.

There is another option with a newer trans, at least in Canada, mk2 85-92 na deisel cars (most) came with 90mm transmission flanges that fit properly with a newer 85 + up 020 transmission.  The TD's mostly came with 100mm.  I actually have a couple.  All you need to do is remove the 100mm flanges and install the 90mm.

Do you'all replace the C clips that hold the flanges to the output shafts on the trans each time or are they resuable

I had to do the opposite with my 100 mm new axle's, my trans was 90 mm , so I purchased some new 90mm inners

So i have a new set of 100 mm's now

1981 mk1 Caddy, I purchased new 100 mm axles for a 16v Scirocco

Just curious. What year 16v  scirocco drive shafts will fit 1981 caddy with 100mm drive?

i never re used my clips. when i did my conversion, i had 92 Jetta inner CV joints. not 80's 16v scirocco. i had to tack weld my CVs to my axles. they were just the slightest bit too thick, so i couldnt get the hardware to go on over them. so i put a couple tacks on them. they are not serviceable, but they work like a dream, and dont shake.
