What izzit oil pump?
« on: October 30, 2009, 09:35:44 am »
Rock Auto sometimes has good deals on closeouts, so I tumbled last week on an oil pump to fit my '91 Jetta 1.6NA:

BECK/ARNLEY Part # 0280243 More Info
Blade Type Shaft [Wholesaler Closeout -- 30 Day Warranty] (Only 2 Remaining) $21.79

I got it yesterday and, lo and behold, the monster is ALL cast iron, made in USA.  It looks like a lethal weapon.  Anyone know who made those?  I am almost afraid to use it- it must weigh 10 pounds.  I am afraid it would shear the two mounting bolts off at the slightest bump, nah, probably not.

Anyway, looks like a good deal, and the website says they have 2 left...

Interesting.....  You shoudl have bought both, keep on under the seat as a weapon...  ;D   Beck/Arnly has been bought and merged alot over the years...   The have several manufacturers.. Your guess is as good as mine as to who made it... I can;t think that there are too many US manufacturers left...

I may need another.  Now that I fixed the broken oil pressure wire at the head I see that on my Rabbit it takes a good 10-15 seconds to build pressure.  I was having this issue a year ago, and it seemed to cure itself (?).  I have a gauge on it as well and it idles at 20 and cruises at 70 psi, so the engine is still good , if I don't wreck it at startup....

Sounds like a suction issue, maybe a faulty pickup??
