SVO coolant system not circulating! Help!
« on: September 27, 2009, 08:29:17 pm »
Hey guys

I know alot of you guys here are against running these vdubs on svo but im need to sell it with this kit I installed.

So ive converted my 1.6 n/a to a greasecar kit and have recently upgraded to a FPHE (flate plate heat exchanger). Its basically a stainless steel unit of plates that exchanges the coolant heat to the veggie oil more efficiently so it heats up quicker.

So now that I have all the coolant lines hooked up to the hot coolant off the head and to the tank and back, I started it up and the engine runs fine but the coolant isn't circulating.

I ran it for awhile to maybe bleed most of the air out the system but the there is no coolant going to the heater lines.

However coolant is circulating somewhere because the engine is reading normal temps and coolant is returning to the reservoir normally. I am just stumped because it should be going through the heater lines.

Does anyone how to fix this? I can't afford to blow this engine up.

put it in a series with the heater core, instead of paralell with it. like out of engine into veg, then out of veg and into heater core, out of heater core back to the engine. then it would have to circulate.

Double check the way you have all the extra hoses hooked up. Sometimes with the maze of hoses and wires things can get mixed up. Case in point: i had someone come to me for almost the exact same problem. After looking at it all for a few minutes i saw that he had somehow looped the hoses under the hood so it didn't go anywhere.
Assuming you have it all plumbed properly, the trick i use is to back fill one hose [ or as many that are empty] with coolant and the other with water [in order to get a 50/50 mix, but adjust accordingly] .That way the system is full , and there are no air pockets. Then once started, remove the rad cap, and squeeze all the coolant hoses a few times. That helps pull and push the coolant in the hose.. Rev the motor some also. Once it starts to flow everywhere, put the rad cap back on. keep revving it until the thermostat opens and then again until the fan comes on
