Well I'm thinking about ditching the ol mk2 and joining the tdi bandwagen. Someone at work is selling an 01 tdi and is asking 7000. Is that steep? Its got 200k clocked snd needs 1800 for some power steering work.

sounds steep to me. Spend 30 minutes on autotrader and you should get a good idea of market value

In Edmonton a 2001 would range from 6.5K to 10K... they are really holding their value.

You would certainly want to negotiate that much steering work into the price.

i paid 8 g's for a really good condition fully loaded 2003 tdi with 260,000 kms on it....  and that was near the cheapest i could find for a 2003.. the 00's 01's and 02's were cheaper but wanted to stay away from them...

I find people over price their TDI's, They sell because they are in Demand.

I'm a bit south, but I just picked up a 99.5 mk4 5 speed tdi with 135K miles, new struts, windsheild, oil pan, brakes, time belt, water pump. for $4300.00 US    Most down here with the same specs are going around $6000.00 us
