Exhaust system fell apart
« on: August 21, 2009, 09:43:47 pm »
I hit a peice of truck tire today about 65 mph and when Ipulled into the Park my exhaust system came apart about where the shifter is.  It was absolutely as quiet as it is with it hooked up with the Magnaflow muffler.  If I knew it would have been that quiet in the beginning I'd never even bothered putting one on in the first place, I couldn't believe it.

Now this is just a wild guess but you must have a TD rabbit. ;D I've heard the turbo acts like a muffler of sorts.

i heard the turbo on gas cars silence the exhaust, so im guessing diesels would be the same, now the OP has the perfect opportunity to do a straight pipe setup :D

Yeah has to be a TD.

My N/A muffler fell off once and it was just as loud as my 400 Ford with open headers.

n/a cars are FRIGGEN LOUD with no exhaust. i ran my n/a with just a down pipe for a while. was drunk and ripped it off on the loggin roads one night. thought it was funny as hell at the time, then in the morning when i fired it up it wasnt so funny anymore.

as for the turbo being a muffler, yea, they muffle the exhaust alot. i just put a T3 on my racing lawn mower and it mellowed the exhaust down so much. it had a hell of a crack before with just side pipes and dual carbs. then i added the turbo and the throttle response was just wild for a 650cc 2 cylinder briggs. quieted it down tons, and it has turbo howl too.

You're exactly right, I just put it in over last winter and didn't want it to be too loud.  Turbos really do take a lot of noise from the exhaust and I see why they use straight pipes on them.

I ran my TD without an exhaust for a week and it was loud as hell. I'm sure it was quietened by the turbo a bit but it really was still loud.

a TD is NOT loud. i dont care what anyone says. run a n/a with less than 2 feet of exhaust coming off the head. it would really get loud when i would roll the propane on.

turbos ARE mufflers!

After hearing my AAZ with a straight pipe. I'll never run a exhaust, the only thing will be a "Fart Can" on the back so I can pass my Safety Inpections lol

i would rather run a cherry bomb then some mexi fart can. everyone in the latino race around here runs chrome wheels or hubcaps for the broke ones and they all have the same fart can. and it sounds the same on every car, no matter what brand it is.

It's all a matter of opinion, I'm running a vnt-15 and about 2.5 feet of 2.25" DP, conversation is difficult at times.
'82 Rabbit, I put on a euro vnt-15, 2.25" DP, 2.5" exhaust, the result.....it whistled.

I removed the turbo, made a toilet bowl 2.5" DP, the result....it was deafening. Now it has a homemade muffler up front and a thrush in the rear, the result.....less loud.
