Hi Guys..Turbo Advice needed
« on: August 14, 2009, 04:13:52 pm »
Hi guys, sorry if this is in the wrong place / im out of place posting here not being a vw owner, but im very intrested in what alot of you guys have been doing, and have been reading with great intrest.

Just to explain a little more, i currently have a peugeot 306 1.9 TD (IDI), which i have converted to a bosch ve setup, and shimmed the govs main spring, as well as fitting an 11mm pump head, and uprated high flow injectors. I have also converted it to run a front mounted intercooler, and upped the boost a fair bit. The turbo im running is currently a k03, and i had a gt15 before.

The problem im having, is as much as i love the fast spool up, when im driving, the boost hits 22psi, then from 3krpm onwards, the boost just drops and drops, i assume this is because the little k03 simply cant flow enough air to maintain this pressure?

Im basically after some advice as to what turbo you would recommend, i am also currently in contact with some peoeple about having a custom cam made up, and copper headgasket for more boost, the car also has a big bore exhaust right through the system.

I have access to a t2 / t25 hybrid which will bolt right on, but i would love to know if anyone thinks this would work, so you think the engine would acaully have enough guts to spools that thing enough to run 25psi ish? And would the lag be worse than full boost at 3.5k?

Thanks for your time, and sorry if im out of place on here.. Also for anyone who has come across videos of mine, i would be the same darrenjlobb from youtube with all those videos (ignore if you dont know what im on about :P)

Cheers!

Darren,

T2/T25 from the 2.2 petrol pug? It'll be laggish on the bottom, but it will pull like hell on the top end.

Its not from any pug, its a hybrid built turbo, which is meant to consist of a t2 hot side, and t25 compressor, (this is what im told anyway, is this possible to make as a hybrid?) i have first dibs on it if i want it...and i need a bigger turbo of some form, im just wondering if anyone had any views...

At the moment with even with the fueling im running, it starts dropping boost over 4krpm, the little k03 cant keep up!

dont go too big on your turbo tho. it wont be any fun. i have a VNT 17 on my 1.5 and its a little friggen rocket. spools pretty low in the RPM range, but yet it keeps up on the top end too. they will make 40 psi if you want them to that bad. and thats just with stock fueling.

yea, but on how big of a motor? just because it spools at X rpms on one engine, doesnt mean it will spool by 3k on any motor. and spooling at 3k sounds high to me. all my rigs are at full spool at 2500 rpms. and both make over 20 psi throughout the rpm range.

he typed FULL boost at 3k...so I'm thinking that's maxed out...not just spooling up???

When i say it makes full boost at 3k, firstly, im referring to the guy whos selling it, which has the same engine as me, 1.9TD XUD unit...

And he said its up and boosting at 3k, not still spooling...

full spool to me, is when the turbo is up and boosting, maybe not full boost, but its spooled. takes no time for it to build more boost.

and full boost, that is pretty self explanatory. right?
