1.6 turbo & manifold on a TDI?

I have been looking into bigger turbos for my TDI project (hoping for 160-180hp), and was wondering if a 1.6 turbo and manifold would bolt on. If it does bolt on, then in your opinion, is a T3 or K26 too big for a TDI?
thanks

You need to update your signature to the year of your car. Just showing us a bug, doesnt really help too much..
We need to know what year it is, if its an ALH motor then yes the 1.6 turbo diesel exhaust manifold and turbo will physically fit on the motor. It will not be a direct bolt on however.. the exhaust will not line up, and neither will the oil feed or return lines.

sorry, it's a 2000 AHU. So, If I am understanding you correctly, the exhaust manifold will bolt up to the head, but I will need to fabricate a downpipe, oil supply line, and oil drain line, correct?

and an intake, and boost tubing, and everything else.. the turbo physically bolts up to the engine, but everything else needs to change..

2000 shouldn't be ahu, in fact no mk4 came stock with an ahu
, and as noted above should be vnt!
Or are you modifying an ahu to put in?

2000 should be an ALH engine, and have a stock VNT15..
going to a T3 would be a BIG DOWNGRADE if you ask me (or anyone else on this forum)
what are you trying to accomplish here?

You are right, it's an ALH, and I wasn't aware that it was a vnt15, so I guess I'll keep it. thanks

Wouldn't the VNT be computer controlled? Would this mod be practical for someone who wants to build no-electronics m-TDI?

T3 would be pretty ideal on a Mtdi, as far as a stock turbo setup. there are better turbos tho, for sure..
it wouldnt be any different than running it on a 1.6, as far as electronics and that sort goes.. the 1.6, and mtdi take the same things to run, fuel, air, and 12v supply to the pump solenoid.

There are several VNT upgrades from the VNT15. You could go for the VNT 17 or 17/22 hybrid.
most people arent gonna buy a 17/22 hybrid to slap on an idi engine..
the VNT15 is very well suited to the 1.6 idi..

Huh?? Who's talking about a 1.6 IDI? This thread is about an 1.9TDI ALH. Oh, did you think I was replying to your threadjack?
sorry, i had just woken up, and was still in the IDI section, not fully aware that i was INDEED in the TDI section. please forgive me! wasnt meant to be a thread jack, i promise..
yes, there are quite a few upgraded VNT turbos for the TDIs.. both drop in bolt on compatible, and not so drop in, bolt on setups..
some guys are running VNT22s, 23s and 25s with custom tunes, and big power numbers..
