Starting my project today.........
« on: August 06, 2009, 03:47:00 am »
Anyone got any tips for pulling a 1.9 out of a mk 3 golf? Never been there before, just wondered if there's any major differences to taking this thing apart as opposed to the mk2 and mk 1  cars I'm used to.

AAZ is going to wind up in a clean gas mk 2 car.....  Along with a T3, a tall set of gears and a tuneup!

BTW, the '93 four door golf will  be up for grabs minus a few parts. windshield is bad, front fenders too. I'll post a few pictures when I get that far.

Pull the fog/dummy lights out and there is a 13mm bolt back there. Take those out and the 2 along hte top edge of the rad support and the whole front clip should come off. I might be missing a bolt or two, it's been a while since I pulled a mk3 apart

Taking our time takes us 3 hours to take an AAZ out. MAKE SURE to support the motor and tranny before remove the front mounts :-\ I forgot the last time and dropped it on my arm and got pinned under it.

Thanks guys. It didn't happen yet, got sidetracked on another project. Supposed to happen today....... Have to run into town first thing this morning, the Bothwell car show is about 3 miles from my house. Usually about 1200 to 1500 cars, and lots of vendors. I need to see if I can find a nice boost gauge and pyrometer.......:D

Car show was pretty sparse this year, bad weather. Didn't find the guys selling gauges that I've seen there before, so I'll have to keep looking.

Pulled the engine/trans as a unit. Put the car up on jack stands, used a chainfall after pulling the hood. Left the front end alone, took about three hours, car back on the ground and shoved outside. I don't quite understand why you'd want to take the front off??
Project on hold for a week, off for a holiday. At least it's finally started!!

Local turbo shop (Cherry turbo in St Thomas) says I should just use the 1.6 pan if I'm using the T3, makes a better drain than cobbling up something into the banjo fitting.  Spent some time talking to him on the phone. Apparently he has a customer east of london (I think he said Woodstock??) running an AAZ with a T3 , in a rabbit truck. Intercooled and lots of goodies, has turned an 11.9 second qquarter!! I'd like to see that truck in action.
