AHU or 1Z in MK1: How low does the oil pan sit?
« on: July 21, 2009, 01:28:58 pm »
Figured I would start trucking through what I will need to accomplish for a TDI swap in to my MK1. Wondering how low the oil pan sits once converted? I have heard of people using a "hybrid" oil pan on 1.8T swaps to help how low the pan sits, wondering if it's needed on a TDI swap.

The same amount as with the stock engine.  1Z/AHU engines use the same type of steel pan that a MK1 has.  The pan is a little deeper on later engines but nothing drastic.

Don't use a 1.8 T pan, even the hybrid ones with the steel bottoms. Use the steel one. You should be fine as long as the car isn't completely slammed or you're gonna do some rock climbing.
