Doesn't the ring marked "top" go in the top groov
« on: June 19, 2004, 05:06:53 pm »
I just opened a new sealed box of Kolbenshmidt TD pistons with the rings already installed. No ring installation instructions included. They all have the ring marked "TOP" in the second groove.  :?:  The bently says the top ring in TDs are a special alloy and the second ring has a special cut. I have always thought the ring marked "TOP" goes in the top grove.

Now, do I accept the rings as they are, assuming the factory knows what they are doing or do I assume the factory screwed up and swap them so the top ring goes on top? Crap I hate problems like this.

Any help here guys?  Anyone have a new set of Kolbenshmidt TD rings with instructions that they can check for me?

Between a rock and a hard place.

I could swear the last set of Kolbenshmidt TD rings I installed were marked "top" on the top ring. On the other hand it seems a stretch to think the factory would install them improperly.

I think I'll install them as is.

Thanks!

A wise move... :)  Rings may be marked either "TOP" or "C" on the top side.
