Hi diesel lovers, i am very confused about a problem that is happening to my Injection pump, i think.. I got a 95 1.9 td AAZ with ac. At 2900 rpm, big loss of power, clicking sound from injectors and white smoke at tail then i shift and everything is ok until 2900 rpm at any gear. I know my injectors needs a rebuilt, but beside this, i am sure there is a cut off solenoid or load dependant timing solenoid or whatever electric connection that is no doing his job during acceleration. Before i do anything, i would like to have an explanation of the different connection on the ip. I know i should check the internat timing of the ip but what is the point if some solenoid is not working properly? I forgot, mileage doesn't look good since this probles occurs.
Any got a link about Ip?
Can it be a bad ground?

Sometimes the governor shaft can seize. I'm talking about the shaft that the spinning governor assembly mounts over. If it's seized, it limits the movement of the sleeve which in turn, limits the travel of the internal throttle levers. Taking the pump top off will allow you to see if it has full travel.

If the governor shaft is seized wouldn't there be a visible leak, and why only at 2900 rpm with load? Isn't there a device on those pump that push more gas as rpm increase..maybe it is this governor. In this case, will i need a rebuild or can i do the job without removing the Ip?
The lower black connector situated in the lower front left of the pump looks a bit rusty, can this be faulty?

So did this suddenly occur? The seized governor sleeve usually only happens if the car has been sitting for years. There would be no leak visible. There wouldn't be white smoke either, just a massive limitation on fueling. You may actually have a valve train issue such as a sticking cam follower.

No, i have been doing a headgasket job with timing belt and cleaning the whole engine because i thought it was the problem. Some problem were solved but this persistent lost of power at 2900 rpm keeps on going. The car have effectively been sitting for few months but was regulary driven once a week.
Since i've done the headgasket, my engine is not burning oil nor coolant and compression looks ok. I have had some similar symptoms with my other td and it was an electric issue...
Do you think i should give a try for a timing?
Any link on what the electric connectors do for the Ip?

Yes, it does rev freely in neutral. When my girl friend returns with my car, i will give a deep cleaning to the Ip connections and ground and see if it solve the problem. I am suspecting the timing solenoid to be wrong or getting funny electricity.

Just thinking out of the box, there have been instances of a jammed pressure relief valve in the engine oil pump sticking. There is so much oil pressure at high revs that the hydraulic tappets hold the valves open. Just a thought.
