No, the a/c alternator has differently positioned mounting points.

That's what I meant, the a/c alternator has a different mounting arrangement from the non a/c one. But I thought there were not differences among mk2 models and a 1.8 gas would have the same alternator setup as a 1.6 diesel with the only variable being a/c or no a/c. Why I brought this up is because I think mk2 models, gas and diesel, aren't that hard to find without a/c.

To SolarSteve, you are thinking of the wrong kind of junkyard. I'm talking about places where their business model is for the general public to bring their own tools, remove parts they want from the cars, then purchase at the exit. Usually these places charge admission and have the cars laid out on stands so it's safe and easy to get to them, not stacked 4 high. Some of the places around LA even have concrete paving so you don't have to lay in mud under a car. Maybe this is more popular in the West but here are some in PA from a quick google search. Anyway, it's a pity if you turn a wrench and have never been to one of these places. I love them. I've bought A LOT of stuff from the local "pick & pocket" over the years, just this weekend I got a good rocker panel for a FIAT (yes FIAT) for $10.

I'll let you know if I see what your looking for.

Thanks for the link, I need to get out to Harry's, but its would take a whole day to get there, rumage around and get back.  I may use a day to do that, but just not right now.

I was in Louisiana for 4 years and they had a place called Parts-U-Pick It and it was set up just like you mentioned.  You could find just about anything you wanted, but the common stuff after about 15 years, they would get rid of.

Anyway, thanks for the link and for keeping an eye out for me!
