What is involved in setting up a tdi to run with a mech pump

What is involved in seting up a tdi to run with a mechanical FI pump. Can you run the stock tdi injectors if the pump is matched to those injectors.

If the Mech pump was setup similar to the ecu pump it seems like the milage would be about the same.
