Torque wrench repair where?
«

I bought a middle-range torque wrench (Wright) about 3-4 years ago. It gets used lightly, stored inside, and treated like it's made of glass.
While torquing some front oil seal carrier bolts, it ceased to "click" at the appropriate torque. Obviously something is wrong, and I don't think a simple calibration will take care of it.
Where's a decently priced, good quality place to send this sucker to have it repaired? It's got to be cheaper than buying another at $150...

I send mine to Team Torque (they have a webpage). I just calibration, but they rebuild too. You should get calibrated every year or so if you do alot of torquing. I think they charged me like $40 per wrench to calibrate.

Mmmm, cool. I'll definitely check it out, thanks!
Just another reason why I like this forum better; this same question has sat for days at the Vortex tools and machining forum, and not a single peep.

I remembered him and looked, but unfortunately I don't think my issue can be solved with a simple calibration.

You might be able to order a repair/rebuild kit from the tool manufacturer. If one is available you could fix it yourself and then just get it calibrated, it would be like a new wrench for a lot less money. I've repaired these before, when the ratchet mechanism wears out, but your problem sounds a bit different.

IIRC, Team Torque will contact you once your wrench arrives, and let you know how much repairs will cost. Might check into that, lest you get hosed for more than the value of the wrench.
They also will fix/calibrate anything from cheapies to top of the line. I sent them my Sears clicker types. SO far so good. I'm a year overdue for a calibration though (economy)

Why not get in touch with the manufacturer and see if they have a repair and return service (where you send them your wrench and they send you back one they already have on the shelf so theres no waiting)?

I am a distributor of Wright tools...get it to me and I will take it to the manufacturer. I know the rep personally and might be able to weasel a deal. That being said the torque wrench is the only thing in the Wright tool line that doesn't come with the full lifetime warrenty and usually costs to get it repaired.
If they want to be "tools" about it and not replace it cheaply I will do one time deal where I will get you another at cost just give me a little cash on the side for my time
and actual shipping.
