Golf-Jetta intercoolers

On the old Jettas and Golfs that were 1.6 T/D with an I/C how much more hp. did they rate them with the I/C as compared to without it?  And were there any other differences like in the pump or turbo with those models with the I/C that the non-I/C didn't have?  Also Golf and Rabbits are pretty much the same creatures under the hood aren't they as far as space to put something
