anyone know where to buy a set of tuner lug bolts?
« on: September 09, 2005, 01:00:48 pm »
i bought a set of 15 inch aftermarket wheels and tires for my rabbit, but the stock lug bolts are too thick. im looking for those tuner ones which are thinner and have a low profile wratchet adapter.

thx.

What kind of style of lug bolt does the wheel need?  There are 3 kinds: 1. spherical or "acorn" seats (stock on VW wheels and bolt)  2. conical taper seat (very common in aftermarket wheels, the most common taper is 60 degrees but there may be others) and 3. the toyota "MAG" style seat (which have a stepped section built into the lug nut).

conical taper,   but im not positive on the degree, but i think it might be 60 but thats just guessing based on eyeballing it.

i got konig heliums, if that helps. 10.2 lbs a piece, thats over 4lbs lighter than a vw aluminum 13 inch wheel, and over 6lbs lighter than a vw teardrop 14!

what sucks about them is that they dont mention anything about the lugnut taper. it just says to check with youre installer for these details. well i dont have an installer. i mount and dismount my own wheels and tyres. i bought a tyre mounting machine for this purpose. my uncle has a digital tyre balancer, so i can do everything in house without going to an installtion shop.

I'll bet you're right that they are 60 degrees.

Never used these before, but maybe they would do the trick...

Pricey little numbers though.

i found very similar ones on ebay for under $35 shipped, for an entire set of 20 plus the adapter.

thanks for the help, i would still be scratching my head if it wasnt for you.
