Put it back together with a bigger turbo

Yes I will, but not with that crankshaft  ;D

With the 1.9 head I have, compression ratio would have dropped to somewhere in the 10-11 range...
Luckily I have a good 1.6 TD crank from the spare engine I just dismantled.

I have no ideas anymore. Its not 1,5 crank, earlier cranks have different nose. It could be from some later audi/passat 1,3, BUT these should have smalles con rod journals, just like 1,5D have. 1,5 conrod is 136/48/22

"Making the jump NA to TD" slow but sure.

Hmm...
I have browsed through some early 80's AM&S Auto Katalogs, and I can't find any other suitable stroke than the 1.5 one. But that has wrong big end journals then? The 73.4 mm stroke is the only possible one though.
The 1.3s all seem to be 72 mm stroke, or even less. That doesn't fit the bill either.

So, the crankshaft looks like this:

On the left side, on the right is an AAZ crank:

And the "new" one that I just took off a CY 1.6 TD looks completely different, it is heavier and has bigger counter weights. So this "strange" crank almost certainly must be a gasser crank, since it's so clearly a different design than the diesel one.

What the heck is this thing?  ???

How about an experiment? Cut the piston even shorter, use the thickest gasket you can find or make to end up with a non-interference engine. Add more boost to make up for the lower compression. 8)

Well, I do have a bare block now, on which I could experiment.
However, as I now have the extra block, that 'strange' crank, four good TD rods that I don't need and a bunch of other stuff, I can't help thinking about putting a gasser head onto it, with diesel or gasser pistons...  Maybe a ported 8V head on top, megasquirt and then some massive boost  ;)
You know the kind of c.r. the engine would have would be just ideal for a wild gasser turbo.

...but that's a whole new project and I'll have to finish the Jetta 200 first (which is really a lot of work)!

Please answer each of the following as the answer to each of the following questions is essential to determining what parts you have.

What parts have you actually measured and what have their measurements been?

Did you measure the rod big and small ends?  Did you measure the distance from center to center?  How did you make that measurement?

Did you measure the stroke of the crank?  How did you measure it?

Did you measure the piston pin to crown height?  How did you measure it?

Please post a picture of the crank nose/keyway as it is an essential piece in determining which crank you have.

Please post a picture of the rods as there are visual differences that are also definitive.

Wow, that's pretty thorough  :)

I'll get back to you when I have the measurements at hand.
It's been an interesting surprise so far for sure...!
