« on: May 24, 2009, 02:01:23 pm »
ok so i bought a tdi motor for a swap into one of my corrados  and was told it is a 1z motor out of a 98 jetta but the someone washed the sticker off of the top cover  so i am not fully sure what motor it is and i need to find a harness and computer for it.  it has a ko3 turbo and i thought that the 1z motors came with the garret gt15?  any help would be appreciated

A picture would be best, but I think the '98 came with a ALH TDI engine.

1Z came in the 96/97 passat TDI (and maybe others) and the AHU came in the '98 jetta's, and some 99's mid year before the mk4's which had the ALH.

so it should be an AHU which is very similar to an aaz if not identical other than the head and crank sensor.

thats a nice complete engine! definitely AHU.  probably the first thing you should do is remove the intake and have it cleaned, then delete the EGR using a block off plate.

the jetta's never came with a 1Z AFAIK.  in NA anyways...

i bet you could probably set an oven to 'clean' with the intake inside... might smoke a lot though  :)

The best way that people use to clean the intakes is using fire. :o Use a propane torch and some compressed air. JUST BE CAREFUL!! When it doesn't burn anymore, use a pressure washer to blast out the rest of the carbon.

That reminds me, I need to clean the one on my TDI. I blocked off the EGR about a year ago, just never cleaned the intake.  :-\

be sure to get the pedal assembly for that type of car with AHU engine.  i've heard that some pedals have a reversed signal and will not work.  maybe someone who knows more about this can shed some light?

You can use a pedal cluster from a A3 or B4 from 96-98.  If you are doing the swap in a MK2 chassis use the B4 cluster, its a straight bolt in.  The A3 cluster will only bolt into a A3.
You can run a AHU or 1Z on a A3 or B4 harness but the A3 ecu seems to be better.
