dirt in fenderwell of new jetta
« on: May 22, 2009, 12:45:24 pm »
Was doing my spring cleaning of your 2000 jetta I deciced to take off the ft. inner fender plastic wells and low and behold the door side had about 4 inches of piled up dirt beween it and the body, and at the top was a form rubber air seal ?? that was water logged just waiting to start things rusting. it was not hard to remove the inner fender or pull back the mudflap side  to clean out the dirt,  it would  save the body over timefrom a rust hole. I would post a pic but have not figgered that out yet. Also Just wondering if anybody else has the paint peeling on there ft. fenders at about the 2-o-clock position r/s, 10- l/s   that started for no apperant reson?.

Well it was nice of the VW engineers to place a large drain so that water doesn't want to find it's way into the passenger compartment so easily as the previous models, but on the other hand look at the composting possibilities while you're driving. On yes to answer your question ,i've noticed lots of a4 jettas with the fenders starting to rot there possibly because of it.

"front quarter panel dirt retention" is to "A4" as "crankshaft sprocket wobble" is to "AAZ"... designed in at the factory.   >:(

Known issues, TSBs but no recall, design changed next version. ;)

If the fenders are rusting out on your mk4 you can bring it to the dealer and have them replaced at no cost

the fenders are not rusting out yet , but the others cars i have seen are in this exaxct spot just like the robot at the factor had dirty clamps and the paint would not stick there and start to peel off , the dealer said the warrenty applys to rust though only from the inside outwards. thats the fine print part on 12 rust warrenty.
