CV Joint size?

Does anyone know if the 1986 Golf Diesel uses 90mm or 100mm CV joints. I see both sizes for sale for this model. Where is it measured at?

90mm and i believe that is measured at the round circular part that attaches to the transmission flange.  only a very select few MK2's came with 100mm axle's.

And the weird Golfs that came with the 9A tranny.

You measure the inner cv joint where it bolts up to the flange on the tranny. You could also measure the inside of the tranyn flange.

WTF... my jetta was a lowly GL base model. AUG trans. 100mm cv's. i think anything that came with a powerful engine or EFI (digifant 1&2) had 100 mm cv's. cause ive seen a dig2 91 cabby with 100mm axles before.

VW put 90 mm on all engines rated at 80 horsepower or less (1.0, 1.3, 1.6, 1.6 diesel), and 100 mm in the rest.

Well....there just isn't 100% consistency though. I have parted out a lot of Digifant II's and have seen 90 and 100's on equipment which does not appear to have received different trans.......

I'd say you could use that as a general guide, but in true VW form, it doesn't always apply
