Can i install a egr blockoff plate to shut down the flow gonig thru the intake without tripping a check engine light? TIA!!!!!

Nope, you'll throw a code and it will keep coming back.
The trick seems to be to leave the EGR physically in place *but* turn the duty cycle down to the point where it's basically not on.
My car came with this "feature" already done by the dealer... the boys over at TDIclub.com probably have the required VagCom steps.

sometimes the egr can leak a little, so a block off plate isn't a bad idea.

It's VERY easy to delete the EGR and not have a CEL. Unplug the vac line from the EGR valve and plug it with something. You got to get into VCDS, engine, measuring blocks, block 3. Then you take out the 2 safety screws holding the MAF sensor in the base. Then turn the MAF sensor CCW until the actual reading is a bit lower than specified at idle. Clear all codes and you are good to go. I have been running around like this for almost a year.

Also, if you have the EGR adaptation on the 'off-road' adaptation (the lowest EGR flow) the computer retards the timing and mileage suffers. Leave it stock and twist the MAF.
