I wired a very simple glow control circuit for my 356TD. Just a momentary switch and a 75 amp relay I got from Summit Racing, powered by a key switched power source. I put another momentary switch along with a starter switch and a toggle in series with the key switch in the engine compartment so I can start the engine (and kill it, if needed) while working on it.
I got it running initially after a lot of cranking, as to be expected. Thing is though, it needed a lot of cranking again every time it started from cold. I was sure the glows were working because I could hear the relay click when I pushed the button, but it sure was in no hurry to start. Then, after letting the starter cool one time I forgot to hit the glow button, and it started instantly! WTF?
Well, can anyone guess what stupid thing I had done? I had grabbed a couple of 5 amp momentary switches of the rack at my local hardware store, but had not looked at them too closely  Yeah, they were "NORMALLY CLOSED" spst switches! So, the "click" I was hearing was me shutting off the glow plugs, not turning them on -- hoo-boy!! --
Not one of my better moves, but no harm done --
