The flywheel was very noticeable. Revs a lot faster. Idles great 650-700 is smooth. With less rotating mass you will see the RPM's drop faster between shifts. I used a 16V fly wheel. If you use this, make sure the TDC mark is in the exact same place. I had to use a dial indicator through the #1 cyl to remark the TDC line. So, just remember to double-check everything.

This also answered my questions reguarding a lightweight flywheel. I found a 6-puck ceramic clutch with a HD 16V preassure plate and can get the flywheel as a kit for cheaper.
http://store.blackforestindustries.com/bfist2clkita.htmlI think i'm gonna go with the LW flywheel after hearing that it isn't bad to drive.
This means that your compression ratio will be a whopping 1034 PSI
 Clucking Bell!
Following along with great interest; as I was about to post a similar question (though my goal was ~120hp) Only difference is I'm looking for the power down low in the RPM band.
My initial thoughts/reading were pushing me along the lines of using the 1.6 bottom end with a 1.9 head, 2.5" exhaust with a big IC - hadn't figured out the turbo yet... But then there's a problem of it does get cold here, and I'd rather the truck started in the winter - the lower compression from the 1.6/1.9 frankenmotor isn't going to help - today was going to be a day to call around and investigate if a local shop could decrease the size of the CC in a 1.9 head...
The cold starting apparently shouldn't be a problem on a healthy engine.
Definetely not enough trouble to start messing with the head.
One of the
advantages of the 1.9 head is decreased compression ratio...

I have a Passat transmission, so I need a 228 mm 'normal' style flywheel instead of the 020 wacky design.
What are the weights of stock IDI flywheels? 1.6 and 1.9?
I'm looking at either a G60 wheel or a custom piece.
