Bosch IP question not VW
« on: April 05, 2009, 04:51:32 pm »
Ok-probably wrong forum to post it--but i bet one of you guys can answer.
Just got an unloved BMW 524td-been sitting a while. Guy I got it from never had it running-had someone change an IP -still wouldnt start. (this IP looks like hell.) Luckily i got the original along with the car.
I gave a minor attempt to start the car using an electric fuel pump with the in+ out hoses from the pump going into a gallon jug of diesel. (yes:power going to the glow plugs+ a wire run to the fuel shut off solinoid.) No luck.
So now plan B: reseal the original pump + start over.
When i turn over the pump I'm gonna use, I feel it "snap" past positions when i turn it. It feels the same in 6 places per revelution. Is this normal?

Where can I find a reseal kit for this pump?

Note: I started my search at mye28.com-but there TD forum gets about 2 replies a week.   :(

Yes the snapping in place is normal. It's the plunger return springs forcing the rollers down the backside of the camplate.

If you give Giles the 10 digit bosch number he can get you the kit. If it's a VE pump like the volkswagen ones it should start with 0 460 4x6 xxx
