This is a bit worrying. The cause is usually at the front ot the head where the oil gallery connects to the block. Don't leave this too long 'cos: A) it will only get worse; B) the head may warp due to differential heating/cooling; C) the oil will eventually block the radiator. Ask me, I know 'cos it killed my last Golf diesel in a spectacular manner! My son's Audi 5000 diesel develeoped the same problem but I got onto it fast and saved it before any major damage resulted.
thanks for the tip... right now, i've been working on the rear brakes, getting the drums turned, installed the wheel cylinders. i'm waiting on the master cylinders, and will get to the front eventually... then its the engine. right now, its on jackstands so its not going anywhere...
speaking of not going anywhere, i've been having a hell of a time with the horn. for some reason it doesn't seem to want to work. if i get a jumper cable, i can get it going, but other than that, nothing. i have a feeling that it may be an issue in the steering column... finally got the Bentley and tried dismantling it, but got stuck at this "Lock washer" thing. just can't seem to find it. not being able to take it apart, i can't get at the horn contact ring, so i'm stuck there. anyone know if there are any known issues with the horn circuitry?
anyhow, i'm pretty tired running around all day dealing with vehicluar crap.
If it's anything like the Golf Mk1, there's a horn relay. Should be in your Bentley. Bypass this and then try the horn push.
Splendid idea! I'll let you know how this goes!
Cheers!
i guess at this point, my posts will mostly consist of: "what's wrong with this stinking car" type comments, so i guess i'll start a new thread in the IDI section... thanks to everyone for all your input, i'd appreciate future input from you all, since i'm new to this diesel engine stuff...
it gives me a headache thinking about everything that's wrong with the car, so i'll start this new thread some other time.
Cheers.
