A Few Questions from a Newbie....

Well, I have owned my lil 86 Golf Diesel almost 2.5 years now, and absolutely love it. (I have a 2008 Jeep Commander in the garage that I rarely drive, because I love driving the lil Golf, not to mention the fuel economy of the Diesel.)

Here are my newbie questions:

1,) Is it feesable to add a turbo to a n/a 1.6?  Are there any threads here that go thru the process and what parts I would need?

2.) What is the best way to wire the glow plugs up on a manual switch. (I'm sure there is a thread for this, but I would like the experts opinion)

3.) What does GTI stand for, and was 1983 the 1st year of the GTI?

4th and final question: Other than the Vortex (Sometimes reffered to as Poortex) and the Samba........are there any other good sites for me to be looking at to expand my knowledge of VW's (Particularily MKI and MKII Diesels?)

1- yes. It's been done many times. You need an EGT gauge

2- Look in the FAQ for Vince Waldon's post on pimping your glowplugs

3- GTI=? In Canada we had a 79 GTI and in Europe I have no idea
