Hi, I'm planning to put my fuel pump back on tomorrow, but I'm slightly worried that somewhere along the line I might have lost the camshaft position in relation to the crank shaft.
Is there a way of setting the camshaft back to TDC?
Bit of a stupid sounding first post I'm afraid but any help would be much appreciated.

To do a cam belt properly it you need a tool to hold the pump gear and cam in place. The pump gear can be held with either a 13mm or 1/2 in deep socket. At the back of the cam there is slot which can only be held in one place with the tool. This tool locks the cam at #1.I think a piece of 1/4 in flat plate may work, although others on this site will know the exact size.

I use whatever piece of flat stock is handy with some feeler gauges to make up the difference, nice tight fit for perfect cam timing

cank tdc you can check by putting the dip stick down #1 or #4 injector holes, wen it rises highest usualy there will be a mark on the pully around that point, always a mark on the fly wheel, as long as you have the right gearbox , if you have none of those things which i didnt :roll: then whip the head of and make ur own mark

make sure the grove on the cam if flat with the head, the first lobe shud be pointing straight at you (just incase you get it 180 wrong)

remember to tension the belt before you tighten up the camshaft pully as it will move the cam out of tdc

for perfect timing use a gauge, i 100% recommend

Thanks for the help, woundn't have found the slot in the camshaft without being told ( its quite hard to get to because its in a MK1 transit).

I'm happy I've got the belt on right but it seems I've got something wrong in the pump as no fuel is coming through. So looks like I'll have to take it all off again!

what have you done to the pump? did you remember to put 12volts to the solenoid? if not it wont work, i know it obvious but i always forget :roll:

It turns out that was the problem  :oops: got the main one and the cold start one muddled :oops:
As for the pump mods, I've followed Hey's excellent instructions in the FAQ

Hi andrew  good to hear your geting on good with your mk1 transit , how are you geting on ? , got any pics , i would like to see your bell housing vw to ford hows it working out . :wink:
