Tips on fitting Power Steering to an AAZ equipped Vanagon?
« on: March 25, 2009, 04:07:00 pm »
So, last year my pops installed an AAZ into a 1982 Vanagon Westfalia. I'm thinking that I'd like to install some power steering for him. I can get a rack and hoses pretty cheap, but I'm a bit worried about how to mount it to the motor. Obviously, there is no room on the backside of the block. The only place I can think of mounting it on the front, would be where the AC would be (not currently installed).

I'm hoping maybe Brickyard or Andrew have done this trick to one of their Vanagons. If so, please help out.

Currently, the car is running the stock AAZ serpentine setup with a harmonic balancer and a clutched alternator. There are no other accesories, except the water pump which runs off the serpentine too.

Thanks

Wouldn't just bolt up to the bracket and block like always? Or because of the serpentine setup it's  too tight a fit ?
