WTB: 90mm transmission output flanges (2 needed)

just wondering if anyone has some kicking around from a junk transmission.  i don't want to bastardize an otherwise good transmission just for the flanges.  of course i want to pay little to nothing for them, as i have access to working transmissions that i will gut if needed.

flanges are just one of those things... when you need them they're hard to find... well not really hard to find, but hard to justify 'maming' an otherwise good transmission  :lol:

if your putting a MK2 trans in an Mk1.. just take the big 100mm MK2 cv joints and put them on the MK1 axles. thats what i did when i did my AUG swap into my 81 rabbit. and the trans and CVs are from a late 92 car. i had to tack weld my CVs on, but if you use the earlier 100mm cv's they will clip right on. i dunno why more of you arent doing this swap instead of taking the damn flanges off. this is WAY EASIER. plus, you get to re pack the CVs and check them for wear.

The tranny in my car is going in the scrap pile as soon as I take it out. I don't have a definite time frame though

the problem is that the 100mm flange sticks out about 1/2 an inch , so the driveshafts need to be shortened that much.  it might be okay, but bottoming out might damage the shafts too much.  for me messing around with the driveshafts is more hassle than just swapping out the flanges.  i've done it before and it only took me about 30 minutes (first time doing it) and most of that time was spent cleaning the dirt off the area...  and the fact that i didn't know i needed a clamp  :oops:  :lol: and best part about this swap, is that i know if i need a new driveshaft, i can easily go and buy one for about $60 no hassles or whatever.

i know a guy that will shorten the shafts for $20 a piece, but i'm just not too sure about getting that done.  again my concern is if it breaks for whatever reason i'll need to go see him to get another one welded up.  

i've heard of 100mm shafts from say a corrado mk2 would work, but again finding those and for how much, is the problem.  i might decide to go with some new shafts... $40 extra each than i would spend for the mk2, but i bet they're higher quality anyways...so this shaft will work for my transmission right?

has anyone gone that route and used mk2 corrado shafts??? i'd like to save money by using the smaller flanges, but one of my shafts is new and the other is questionable anyways, so i think i might as well bite the bullet.

no, the flanges are no different. the transmission case its self it 5/8ths of an inch wider, like the diff housing i mean. i have no issues with any part of my axles. i learned this swap from another dubber who has done the swap numerous times with fine results. im definently not going to take it back apart to swap flanges since ive already got a set of one-time-use custom axles already fabbed up and in my car.

i've never measured an 02A or 02J, but i've measured a CHE from a '96 jetta AAZ and the diff housing is the exact same as a mk2 020 transmission.  if the 02A/02J diff housing is indeed wider, then i guess i'm in for some custom axles  :roll:  :cry:

no, the difference between an 020 4spd and an 020 5spd. the 5 is wider.

oh yes of course!  :lol:

but for my application, i'm going to replace a 5 speed 020 with a 5 speed 02A/02J box  :wink: and i just checked some part numbers, and they cross reference both TD AAZ with TDI AHU driveshafts so it looks like i'm good to go with those EMPI shafts.

anyone have any insight into the using of corrado/scirocco 100mm axles?

this thread provides some relevancy.  just want to see if its truly bolt on with the proper length & all (the spindles should be ok as per my test).  perusing through ETKA it seems like some versions of the 1990's scirroco's came with 100mm flanges, and all corrado's came with 100mm flanges?  good to know i suppose.

i also found my old thread.  so looks like i'm going to buy some new axles, unless someone has any kicking around (for cheap)
