I'm doing the headgasket on my GTD soon. While the cam is off I might as well change the lifters. They are hydraulic and I have heard that the lifters from later tdis can fit the 1.6 heads and they are lighter. The part number for them is 050 109 309H whereas the part number for the correct 1.6 hydraulic is 034 109 309AD.
Can anyone tell me if the ones with part number 050 109 309H will fit my 1.6 IDI 'SB' cylinder head and if they will work and also if they have any negative points to using them if they fit.
Thanks
Will

Thanks, but i think i'm going to stick with hydraulic lifters as I don't have a mechanical camshaft and would like to keep it all simple.

Personally, I wouldn't skimp or go light on lifters cuz it sucks when they break (and they will).

Go lightweight if you are racing and planning to rebuild every year. Or unless you are planning to wind it up past 7000 rpm's which is a little hard on a diesel.
