The tdi engine will run with a standard AAZ camplate (I run mine with that for some time) but the injection time is longer (smooth camplate). The performance is about the same as an AAZ engine but the combustion is not as good as with an AAZ engine.
The di engines are design to have short injection burst, this is why they run much better with sharper camplate and not so good with standard idi camplate. Also the camplate is made to match the injector opening pressure
If you instal a dialgauge onto a DI pump you will see the dial moving VERY fast. For example 1 degree and it moves 0.2mm instead of only 0.1mm or something like that... injection time is shorter then!
