I don't belive this to be true.  In my SCCA racing class, MKI sciroccos tend to be heavier than equally prepared, 2-door, no sunroof Rabbits.  The racing community is split on which is more competitive as a racecar however, because the MKI scirocco has an advantage of lower center of gravity.

Lord V, I got a 02A CTN (from A3 TDI).

fspGTD, a friend of mine has 2 scirocco mk1 and they weigh around 750kg each.

A rabbit will be around 850kg according to owners I know.

Good news: I just gotta a job at Bell Helicopter.$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
