its blowing out quite a bit of smoke... i wonder if the breather is clogged???

new rings probably couldn't hurt... have you checked the compression?

nah.. don't have a compression tester for a diesel.  frankly its just too much just to check it. lol. just trying to get opinion.  Oil has started dripping down the oil dipstick tube it blows so much ...

Could the PCV (I think its a PCV) on top of the valve cover be messed up?

Possibly. Check that, and if it flows freely, assume the oil rings are cooked.  Once the white smoke starts pouring out of the engine, you'll consume alot more oil, and it will stink like hell.

is it still blowing like that when you remove the PCV valve that connects back to the intake? (big rounded black plastic thing on the of the cam)

It goes through a fair amount of oil.... I haven't bothered removing that PCV Valve yet.

Man that sucks. rings are a ****! I have seen your car in beaverton before as i was passing through i'm pretty sure it was yours anyway :P
