They have the shield inside as well as a better cutoff pattern. Very very important. But as long as the glass lens says ECode and not DOT it will work.

The clearance issure I'm talking about is coming off the back of the bulb. The mechanism for the high beam. Inside shouldn't be an issue. It depends what you have behind the headlight.

On my mk2 the airbox was a little close. The black part on the H4-3 bulb in the picture below is what I'm talking about. You need a good 3 inches of clearance to be able to get the bulb into the housing. Probably not an issue, just letting you know.

Man I dont think Mine are 3". Maybe 4" over all length but I'm thinking they are closer to 1.5 from the bulb face (where it mounts) to the back of the actual base.
I dont know for sure though, my car is 60 miles from me so I cant even go look.

The mechanism isn't three inches however you need a good 3 inches to be able to slip the bulb into the housing.

I guess I should have read more before just going out an ordering...

Oh well, my exhaust boarders legality as does alot of "upgrades" on my car....whats another?

Your exhaust doesn't quite have the same potential to blind and kill.

Speaking as someone who drives at night for a living, HIDs in halogen reflectors = really bad news.

My opinion is, and without opening up a discussion to this, I have driven by ricers and other cars with drop in HID kits, and although it's bright it doesnt blind. I would be interested to see any death caused by being blinded by HID light...I bet there are many more incidents of death related to drivers not seeing things due to crappy halogen light, Relatively new technology yes I know, only time will tell I guess.

Besdes, you arent supposed to look into oncoming headlights, keep your eyes on the road...

Moving on,

The lights are an INSANE difference, I saw stuff on my drive home that i've never seen
They are well aimed and I wasnt flashed once, I even forgot to lower my high beams a couple times (bad habit from my crappy halogens where I drove around with high beams on all the time, as the low beams were like candle light) and wasn't flashed once... I'll give it a week to see, but I strongly recommend this to anyone...

Proud to report that this upgrade is without a doubt worth it...

I have several hundred KMs on the lights now (night driving) and I have passed, followed and crossed cops (both municipal and provincial) and have not been pulled over. Yesterday on my drive back I was following a sunfire doing about 110 and came up on a cop parked with lights off trolling for speeders, we both saw his reflectors from what seemed like half a km away.

My field of view at night is wide and 3-4 times more far reaching than before, and road signs pop out...

I have not been flashed once, aside from forgetting my high beams.

A+

I think right there he says he's got 'em ;)
'82 Rabbit, I put on a euro vnt-15, 2.25" DP, 2.5" exhaust, the result.....it whistled.

I removed the turbo, made a toilet bowl 2.5" DP, the result....it was deafening. Now it has a homemade muffler up front and a thrush in the rear, the result.....less loud.

Breezing through this thread,I see more pro's than cons. I have NEVER enjoyed the lighting coming from my Mk2 aero headlights. Granted, they are probably original, and I added halogens. But nothing really noticable.

What do you guys recommend as the best bang for the buck?

Or keep the halogen bulbs and buy new lenses?

Thanks.

Stay safe,stay well. Jimmy.

Relays and good lamps. They were cheaper than legit HID projector retrofits, and improved the light output from my Quantum's lights. Even just relaying them instantly brightens your output leaps ahead of stock.
