My little bro's having a bit of bother with his car,its 1995 mk3 tdi 1z estate, its started to be a pain in the ass of a morning,it struggles to start but once it does it runs rough while idling but then its fine when you drive it.One of his friends plugged a code reader in and it give us these codes.
00765-slide control travel(piston dislpacement) sensor
00522-engine coolant temp sensor
Now were no engine experts but that first one sounds pretty serious,is it?Does anybody know the part numbers for the above items? He needs to use the car everyday so we could do with fixing it asap, any help input would be greatly appreicated.
The first thing to check are the glow plugs. fortunately on a TDI they are easy to check. Thing is that 1 or more bad GP's should have also set a trouble code, although i don't think the earlier TDI's were as sensitive to set a DTC. The next thing is to clear the DTC's and see what happens again. If the temp sensor has failed and shorted it will definitely cause cold staring problems, the ecu thinks it is hot out. the other DTC about the injector sensor could cause a problem , but it would had to have failed big time for it to cause a no start problem.
Thanks for the quick reply caveman im gona be a complete dumb ass now and say "what are DTC's"? and how can we clear them, can we do it off my friends laptop once its plugged in?
DTC's are diagnostic trouble codes, the ones you got off the scanner.
And i don't know if your friends scanner can erase them. You will have to look and see. Don't sweat erasing them, on a diesel it will have no effect.
Thanks man thats a big help
The Caveman knows his TDI *** bro
We are all blessed
Hey, I appreciate the shout out !
