Dremel!!!
I cant tell you the number of times my dremel has saved my ass, if you dont have one you should get one(or at least a cheap knock off)

i bought mine from princess auto for about $20, and then this kit from mastercraft for another $20 that came with a crapload of cut off discs, and all kinds of attachments.  even had a diamond cutting wheel that my dad used to cut ceramic tile.   endless uses!!!

yeah i have one but no cut off wheel will ever fit down there. I went to home depot looking for a bit for it to do just that and the guy gave me a drill bit and said "this will work perfectly" and the bit broke and didn't do what i wanted it to.... What kind of bit do you think i should use? there was one there that looked like it might have worked but it said it was only for soft metals.

I think i need to go to KMS tools to find a proper bit. Carbide bits? or Cobalt bits? or Vanadium tipped bits?

I need to clean out the holes of the flange... just to clarify

get a grinding stone bit, they make long thin ones you should be able to fit into the holes and grind out the welds.

any particular material i should look for?

Edit: I got an allum oxide one.
Oh man im angry :P when i went in yesterday i asked for dremel bits and was told there were only wood etching and tile cutting buts, no cutting/grinding dremel bits at ALL for hard metals and the guy said to use a drill bit which did nothing except cost me 10 bucks and break instantly... I went in today, made sure not to ask anyone for help, and found they had all the dremel bits i would ever want! carbide cutting bits, diamond edged bits, the list goes on. Long story short; i got the  bit and the downpipe is finally on there. Looks pretty mean

Weird lurching can be a knackered front engine mount. Put the hood/ bonnet up and see what the engine does as the clutch bites as you pull away, somewhere quiet obviously. If the engine flops around like dying fish there could be a problem.

That's what im thinking because at the same time i did notice that after a few pulls with the new build it did seem pretty loose in there.
