you can only do 83-85 w/ a GC trans wound to the bolts.. unless you modified/removed the gov..

my car will bury the speedo needle on the ODO reset stick with a GC.. and it does it quick too.

I did 100mph in 4th today
My 1986 Jetta. Pretty easily and when shifting to 5th at that speed 5th has amazing pickup. Nothing like the gutless it is at 45mph in 5th trying to go faster on level ground

45 with my AGS that has 3.667 R&P says 1772 for 45mph
for 100mph it says 3939
I need an intercooler, I garantee I could wrap the speedo now at 120, but it may take a while to get there having to let off for EGT.

I have seen 99 mph in a 80 Rabbit 1.6D/4 speed with nothing more than a  timing change and 1/8 of a turn on the flow screw. It had more but I was making a spectacle of myself and it was a car I just sold to a customer. I did not want to have to buy it back.

it did not have a stock 1980 rabbit trans then. unless you messed with the governor, it didnt go 99mph with a stock '80 GC 4 speed. i could see it going over 100 with a 4A, or a GL or something like that. any of the 3+E transmixers will go that fast.

well, that was kinda a given. but still, in stock, un boosted form, i doubt the difference from a 1.5 to a 1.6 isnt going to be 17 mph..

cause my rabbit had a fairly healthy 1.5 in it, and it would only do 83. up hill, down hill, with a tail wind. only 83 mph. had to play with the government to get it to go any faster..

No, it was a bone stock 1980 N/A 1.6. The only mods were pump timing and some fraction of a turn on the flow screw. I did spend a fair amount of time doing the "Norwegian dyno tune". (Countless runs up the same hill with tiny incremental changes taking the best numbers and using those settings)

1980 would have been a 1.5..  The stock transmission was a GC 4 speed..  Final drive was 3.89:1 and 4th gear would be 0.91:1  with stock tires  (175-70-13 or 185-55-13) at 99mph the engine would be turning 5200 rpm..  :o    The stock governor won't allow it..

thats what im saying.. ive owned a grip of different 4 speeds, and diesels.. from stock, to built pretty decent..

99 mph takes HIGH gears if you dont have a governor mod..

with a GC.. my car turns ~5600 rpms (.97 4th gear) at 100 mph.. and its been discussed that 5600 is about when the pump rollers start skipping..

my car would NOT do 100 mph as a n/a until i modded the GOV.. it needs the extra fuel up top to pull to 100 mph..

plain and simple tho, if you had a stock 1.6, and a GC trans attached to it, and no governor mod, the only way to go faster than 83 mph is with another car/truck pushing you...

I usually shift to 5th at 65. but. I have 185-65 14" and the speedo is therefore suspect...  and while not wearing a turbo yet , my bunny has extensive head and timing/ tuning mods ..
