with a stock governor, and a GC 4 speed, i could go 83 mph, down hill with a tail wind. or 83 on flat ground. or 83 up a steep hill. now with my governor shimmed up and an AUG close ratio trans w/ 3.67 final, it will go ATLEAST 125 mph on flat ground. thats all the harder ive gotten to run it so far. im going to be getting an ACN for it before too long. the .75 fifth and 3.67 will be nice.

still have no idea how many rpms my car turns.. no tacho.

How did you clock it at 125mph? GPS?

You can figure your rpm here, http://www.scirocco.org/gears/

no, i just looked down at my speedo. i have a 140 mph cluster in there. and i picked up my ACN the other day. its in my gas GTI right now, but its gonna get a diesel bolted to it in the near future. the speed calc said 5500 RPMS @ 125 mph. witch works out to be pretty much right. i knew that the trans turned right about 5000 at 105 mph in my jetta. i doubt it would go 125 if i didnt have the BR 70-13 tires on there, they are pretty tall, like 4 inches taller than a 195/60. its gonna be 4673 @ 125 with the ACN trans in there.

going from a top speed of 83 to an unknown top speed is pretty decent. i havent found a long enough straight stretch to really open er up yet.

4 speeds with no overdrive are retarded tho. i had one of those. when i went to the 5 speed, my car really came alive. it was really sluggish with the 4 spd, the turbo fell off boost every shift. with the 5 speed, i can maintain 10 psi between shifts.

They are :)  I have a 5 speed FN, post just asked for top speed in fourth :P so i thought i'd post up lol

fifth is definitely a cruiser with the stock motor. it will come alive when i open up the intake and exhaust this spring and mess around a little bit with the governor.

any of the .75 or .71 equipped transmissions do nicely while cruisin. either 4 or 5 speed, they both came equipped with super high over drives. and those were nice.

I hope you're not talking about the ACN that rabbit on roids is talking about. ::)  my motor came out out a rabbit that had a gp 4 speed and went into a mk2 jetta with the ACN behind it, and the difference is BEYOND night and day through each gear.  my little lady thought I had a completely different motor after the swap ;D.  and remember that mk2 is a few hundred pounds heavier :-*

no Mclovin' ( LOL ) I was talking about an FN trans, and I was referring to how the .71 5th gears aren't much good for anything but cruising. ;)

ASF, AON, ACN, ACL (8v)    3.67    3.45    1.94    1.37    1.03    0.75  spins 2537 in 5th at 110kmh
FN, FF, FH, FJ (from '81)    3.89    3.45    1.94    1.29    0.91    0.71  spins 2545 in 5th at 110kmh

With the slight differences in the 3-5 gears, but the different FD gearing.. these transmissions would feel pretty much identical I would think. Having slightly shorter gears, but a slightly longer FD.. They would both be nice.

I think a FUN transmission would be a trans with a 4.25 w/0.71 5th or a 3.94 w/0.75 5th..

Or this 4spd GY (3+E 8/82-7/84)    4.17    3.45    1.75    1.06    0.71

 :-* lol

i wanna play with one of these some day when i have some serious horsepower that i think i need to abuse a tranny with. although, first gear may be a bit too low with the 4.20:1 fd ratio, i always wondered what 420 r&p sets came in, i guess i know now.

are you sure you have correct the speedometer gear on your speedo cable

He makes a good point, the incorrect speedo gear could easily be telling you your doing faster..
