Anyone have good pictures of the Passat twin fans?
Are they really slim and do they come with a deep shroud or is it really a 'space saver' design?
Nobody...?
I will grab some pics of mine tomorrow....mine is NOT the direct bolt in replacement...I had to make 2 small extender tabs to make mine mount in factory locations...
I put a passat dual fan into mine, its MUCH smaller and keeps it cool much faster, mines holding in with 3 screws though, forth one isnt lined up, BUT you could use the Passat rad aswell if you like

Thanks! That is helpful.
The Passat fan isn't really that slim after all..
But it's sure to be effective. Will have to see if that works for me too.

Not really. The MK3 is taller and won't fit without trimming the bottom (or top?) off the shroud.

well a bit of trimming isn't too difficult!
I'm still  waiting to make a shroud with my friend. I need to buy some stock.

I got a Passat TD twin fan now too. It looks pretty nice and at least it should be very effective.
The only thing I don't like about it is the big fan motor that protrudes a long way into the engine compartment. I wonder why universal 'slim' fans only need a tiny motor on them. If only I had some reserve in my project budget I would look into fitting universal slim fans into the Passat twin shroud.
Now I think I'm just going to go with the Passat system.

most aftermarket fans SUCK!! I have spent big bucks on fans in my day...and I have come to the conclusion that stock fans truly do pull the most CFM....my passat fan is thicker then the other style....so there is thinner versions.
in the end I like the thicker one since it has a REAL nice enclosed shroud.
I would take a pasasat fan or taurus fan over a high dollar flexalite or spal fan ANY day.

hey zukgod1!! post a pic of you bolt in passat fan would yah?!?!?!?!?

I installed the newer passat dual fan with the blades tied on the outer edges with very minor modifications to mounts. I have no problem keeping the rad and coolant temp down but have burned out 2 alts before going to a Bosch. It does fine on low speed but when high kicks on it sucks juice and my voltage drops. I am thinking of disabling the high speed. AC blows cold even today at 80 deg. I bought the passat controller but haven't opened it up yet to see what the magic is.

I took the opportunity to check the draw on the dual fan set up that I have, low draws 36 amps and high draws 55 amps total draw with AC on high blower speed. My Bosch 90 amp alternator puts out about 36 at idle and on high speed and at idle I believe it is drawing from the battery. After I let it sit at idle and then rev it up I saw a brief high of 75 amps with the clamp meter on the alt wire. Slightly different numbers on the positive cable due to the juice in the battery. I put a switch in to activate high speed but I don't use it since installing the dual fan.

I'll see if I can get one today. I'll have to use the phone but should be ok.
