You'd be pretty hard pressed to find one of those cars in good shape for under 3k. When I was shopping for a '93-'97 Jetta TD in the spring last year most of them I looked at were advertised for 4-5k, and some of them were pretty rough. I ended up settling for a '94 with 215,000 km, very little rust in the body or floor for $3350 as is. The diesels will easily go for $1000 over gas models. Obviously if it's rough or has high kms, say 300 or more, the prices will start to drop.
I would think that in NB the prices would be the same as central Ontario if not higher.

don't forget tho that diesel prices are still 25 cents more a liter than gas so millage cost per km are about the same... this makes diesel less desirable to many buyers, thus dropping the sell price.

Hmm, I paid £600 for mine and have spent a bit more on springs, water pumps etc. I think that was a bit pricey for here tbh.

I think if people are charging more then 2000 for a 94, they are over charging, i only paid 1000 for my 96 KM3, and it was low mileage.

True..last year around here I finally had to ask one seller what he was smoking. I was looking for a parts car and some folks were playing the fear-mongering on the price of fuel (gas was 1.30/L and diesel was 1.46/L); small car prices were going crazy too. I watched a old Geo Metro whose wet dream would have been to pass the safety; go for $1500. It was worth $50. Maybe. Needed at least another thou put into her if that guy did the work himself.
My old advice I tell anyone who asks is this: Doesn't really matter what you paid for it if you're happy with it....

i bought my '94 golf with aaz in october '07 for $7000AUD. but, its a rare car in these parts.... a mk3 vr6 in good nick goes for 6-9k here, and a standard GL will go for 5-6.
mine only had 130,000km on it and was and still is in great condition...
i always say a car is worth whatever someone is willing to pay for it.
