I got a chance at purchasing a 94 Jetta 1.9 AAZ, good shape, its been painted, well maintained. The owner told me to make an offer on it. I don't want to make a too high offer thats more then its worth, but i don't want to screw the person over(he might be my boss). Would 650$ be a resonable price?

if you can get that car for 650$ you will be one lucky person. Depending on the status of the engine, but those cars can go anywhere from 3,000-7,000 respectively.
Without knowing exactly what condition everything is in on the car its hard to tell you what a resonable offer would be. 650$ IMO seems waaaay to low and he will most likely laugh at you. Doesn't hurt to try though

I think its a base model, nothing special to it. You think 3000 to 7000 for a 94??? for 7000 you can get a 2001 around here.

I couldn't get Kelly bluebook to acept your town and they don't show a diesel as an option on their used car private owner catagory but a base model gas 4 cyl is listed for around $1100 fair condition and around $1500 in good condition and I put in 200000 miles for mileage. This is for a Western Maryland zipcode. Depending on the engine condition and miles your price might be close and he at least shouldn't be too offended. Again Kelly didn't have the diesel as an option for some reason.

In Edmonton that's a $3K - $5K car, assuming it's in good shape. Diesel VW prices are still nuts here.
Some guy was asking $18K on Kijiji for a 1981 Caddy that "needs some work".

Sounds like a 3k to 5k car for these parts as well. All depends though.
I'd talk with him some more to try and get a feeler of what he wants for it. No need offending your potential boss.

when you do go see him about price, have cash as mentioned, and ask what needs to be done to the car, my guess is that if you are going to offer $650 there must be something you suspect so be ready to back up any potential repairs with cost of repairs.

true, here too, but for that amount it must be perfect, rustproofed and very well maintained.
if this is to be your future boss, be honest with him, tell him what you can afford and see if he will " let it go " at that price to help you out.
PS: I got my '97 Jetta for $700 and ran it a year before I put money in it, it had 300k on it and burned oil.
