I just got my rebuilt 1.6T/D running with a cooling system on it in the garage to check things out before it goes in the car in the Spring. All seems well with everything but I was wondering if you can test the LDA while the egine is running at idle somehow by slowly applyiing pressre to it and watching for rpm increase. I never heard this motor run before I rebuilt it but everything else on the pump seems good and I've been running the new motor on a 50/50 diesel-ATF mix to loosen any gum up that could be in it. If anyone has ever tested an LDA like this please let me know if it will work in this method or another way to test it :idea:
I asked the exact same question a coiuple weeks ago.I came up with, no.The pin is sliding freely on the cone, as well as the arm that touches the back of it .that then moves off the collar plate.If the flyweights arent pushing back, then it wont put tension on the arm or pin.would be nice though.There is a diagram with a foot, that isnt even right. the pin is shown as a one piece arm that pivots,but its three parts that work off eachother.
Yup, that would be my take.
As I work way thru the various levers and pivots in the head of the pump I think of the LDA as an "allow more fuel" device rather than an "add more fuel" device.
The pump would need to be spinning at operational speeds.... governor pressing against the LDA lever... and then the LDA pressurized... for you to see a difference in fuel output.
Or at least that's my understanding.
