The Caddy Project - Lots-0-Pics
« on: January 14, 2009, 07:46:03 pm »
I bought this truck in July '08 for just under $300.  Had no trans but the rest was still there, albeit rotten.  The guy didn't have the keys for it but at least he had the title.  Got it towed home and quickly realized ALL the rubber had rotted away for sitting outside this guy's house for over 8 years, so a somewhat of a "restoration" was in order.

Below are some pics I have taken during the teardown and rebuild.  They could be more pics but gotired of taking pics of it after every step, but you'll get the idea :)  As you will see it's still a work in progress and am still searching for those hard to find parts, but I think it has come a long way.  Enjoy!

What it looked like when it came home:

My cat checking out the new addition to the back yard:

Must have been either an auto? or the clutch blew up!

MINT Interior:

At least it came with a brand new 200mm clutch:

Don't know if this was accurate but judging by the condition I would agree w/the odometer:

Teardown  pics wil be up in a bit :)

Teardown Pics:

Well, I can't find much of the teardown pics so these will have to suffice:

Everything gutted from engine compatment and painted matte black:

Interior and all exterior panels removed completely:

New dash test fitted:

Dynamat installed before reinstalling the factory padding and new carpet:

Factory padding and new carpet installed:

Kneebar and AC/Heater unit installed:

And the way it sits as of this afternoon.  I have put a few hundred mile son it, but as you can see it still needs some hard to find/rare odds and ends before I can call it complete:

It still needs to be vacuumed/detailed but you get the picture:

The turbo diesel runs great!!

That's about it for now.  More will pics to come!  Thanks for looking!

Very nice!

I'm  seeing full paintjob in the future. Please keep us posted. Looks nice so far.

Just out of curiosity, how do you like the dynamat for sound issues?

At the moment it's too hard to tell.  All I have for exhaust is the downpipe that ends right at the shifter base, so the noise is pretty deafening at higher RPM's.  I need to finish the exhaust so I can reap the benefits of all the extra padding and Dynamat.  I bought a brand new total rubber seal kit from MK1 Autohaus so at least there is no wind noise at all :)

Body work and paint are the last things on my list.  Waiting for a front eurobumper and need to install the factory GTI front spoiler.  I also need to repaint the brackets and rechrome the rear bumper before it gets put back on.

-Polyurethane bushings throughout steering & suspension
-New control arms w/ball joints

In order to completely cover the cab, inclusing the ceiling, b-pillars and all, I had to purchase 2 package of the "bulk" or "extreme" box that came with 7 sheets.  I went a little over kill and did a lot of overlapping.  I would imagine still using well over 1 extreme package.

Great job on the Caddy and the pictures. Been working on my pickup about 1 1/2 years. So cold here, I can't even go in the garage. Hope to have the Caddy ready by spring.      Kanzan

Kanzan - Fantastic job on your build, very close in the way I did mine....took it down to bare metal and wires and start from scratch.  It looks great!

I bought the carpet kit off of ebay and the name escapes me at the moment.  It is good quality carpet, but I didnt know I would have to cut out every hole needed to make it fit.  Oh well, it will work nicely.

I found the grille in its current condition from someone on here a while ago.  There is one small crack under the driver headlight and will prob super glue it together once it warms up.

Boosted.....I'm looking for some 15" wheels wether aftermarket or factory.  Also am looking for a front euro bumper and a rear view mirror with functioning day/night lever.  Let me know what you got!  That goes for anyone interested in selling some parts I need.  Would love the intake tube going to the turbo from a factory turbo diesel.  Thanks!

I have some 15" A.R.E. aluminum rims! they look like something like phone dials! clear coat is peeling! or i have 17" white epoxy color 8spoke rims ! they were on a corrado i had! i have 2 front euro bumper's! one is weathered/ faded ! the other looks new! was on my show truck till somebody backed into the front of my truck and hit the corner of the bumper broke the clear turn signal light, bent the metal and cracked/ crushed the plastic out side! i kept it because it can be fixed!
and for the mirror i was organizing my stuff last nite and have at least 15 rear view mirrors in various states of condition! and i possibly may have an extra turbo to air box filter and a air box too! i don't have any pics of anything because my desk top computer is getting fixed! and don't know when i will get back up and running at this point?
thanks Duane
